The Shoes I’m Eyeing and Their More Affordable Twins
Oh and Madewell’s Accessory Game Is Looking Ca-yute
Every season, I allow myself one splurge. A shoe that fills a gap in my wardrobe. It’s usually an emotional purchase, but I make sure it’s something I won’t tire of. I’m not really a bag person so shoes are what get me going. When I’m considering a big-ticket item, I make myself picture at least 10 different ways I would wear it. Versatility is key. It has to be a pair that could stand in for a staple, like a loafer and still make me feel like me.
My last big one was the Margiela Tabi Mary Janes, and it’s safe to say I’ve worn the shit out of them. And they still look brand new (swear). That’s the thing with quality. When something is made well, it holds up. The leather, the construction, the fit… they just age better. It’s what makes investing in high-quality shoes feel worth it. They stand the test of time.
This is a roundup of shoes I’ve been eyeing and some lower-priced versions that hit a similar note. I also snuck in a few other spring cravings (like some madewell accessories that are looking quite swell) that I know would get a ton of wear.
Wooden Sole Platform Sandals
Starting with the wooden sole. This is the shoe that really inspired the whole list. The Miu Miu wooden clogs have been staring me down. It’s the way they seem comfortable enough for everyday but also would elevate an outfit with ease. They hit my hippie-at-heart spot, but still feel current. The heel isn’t too high, and they work with so much of my wardrobe: slouchy trousers, midi skirts, cotton pants, etc. I can already see them being one of those shoes I reach for constantly without overthinking it. That being said, there are a few pairs out there that are a tenth of the price and such close copies I feel like I could go to jail by purchasing. But also… I’m human sooo I remain v curious. I will say I am not a logo person so the ‘Miu Miu’ logo on all of their shoes always throw me off. Maybe this is more of the reason to buy the cheaper version?

Thong Sandals
The brown Bottega intrecciato sandals have me in a chokehold. I love a heeled thong sandal for some height when i’m wearing trouser shorts, but they literally go with any pant and instantly elongate the laygs (legs you get it). I’m also really into the wedge version right now, very Alaïa-coded and very influenced but the industry. I have a high-heeled pair in black, but I wear more browns than black and could use something like this:

Flat Sandals
I love my rubber-nothing flip flops, but when the weather warms up, there’s something satisfying about upgrading the thong sandal. It makes a super casual outfit feel more intentional. A flat leather pair is something I don’t own and i’m feeling its time I invest, would really help round out my wardrobe.

The shoes that spark joy when you look down.
These are the pairs that bring texture, pattern, or color to an otherwise simple outfit. They have the power to elevate even a plain tee and jeans. Just by the pop of a shoe, suddenly the whole look feels intentional and styled.

The Sneaker
I’ve been living in my blue Adidas lately, but I love the color combo on these Dries ones. They’d be an easy swap for my brown loafers, still pulled together, but more comfortable and practical for our weekend walks into town. They feel considered and a little more unique than other versions I’ve seen. The Nike LD 1000 and the Nike Pacific (number two) are both a flattering shape and give off a similar ease that your sambas did… they also come in some great colors. The Cecilie Bahnsen embroidered satin sneakers are awesome and the floral detail is a lovely surprise (very her). It would give lug boot energy with a high black sock. Lastly, there’s nothing beats a pair of Vans - kinda goes without saying.
A Couple of Tops: Simple but interesting enough to keep my eye on
I can’t stop thinking about this stupid Bode cami. Gosh! There is not a bottom or a general item in my wardrobe that it wouldn’t work with. I truly just can’t figure out if it’s worth $420, but I’ll let you decide…
I also added a boat neck tank that looks like the perfect cut. If the “shell” was last year’s staple (I am still a loyal fan of this one), I’m leaning more into the boat neck now. More refined, a little elevated, and it really flatters the collarbone (clavicles forever).
Madewell is looking goooood
As the weather warms up and we lose our layers, accessories become key to making an outfit feel complete. I’m always telling clients to add a necklace to a simple look and without fail, they’re blown away by how much it transforms everything.
Madewell is looking really good right now. Their neck game is strong I love the shape of the gold chain below, and the red beads are the perfect tone and size. Just enough color to make a statement without being too loud.

Belts
Some great ones below. I love the buckle shape on both. The one on the left leans more menswear-inspired if you're after something subtle, while the one on the right is bolder, with extra hardware. Both come in a few colors, so whether you need a brown or black to round out your closet, you’ve got options.
Bags
Madewell’s been hitting it with the bags, too. There’s a great slouchy one with that same curved shape as The Row’s banana bag, casual but elevated. It’s the kind of piece that tones down an outfit that might feel too buttoned-up (more on that here). And the summer tote is spot on (both colors).
Also… suede for summer. Yes. It adds a little richness and texture, a great counterbalance to all the cotton we’ll be living in for the next few months.

A Few Other’s I Didn’t Want to Leave Behind:
There are a lot of elements that make a hat good (honestly, I might need to do a whole piece on it). But this straw one hits the mark. The wide brim and tall crown do really flattering things for your face shape.
And the aviators are a good time. If you’re looking to scratch that aviator itch without making a dent in your bank account, this color is cool, and the shape feels flattering without going being too costume-y.
Thats it! I rounded out a Spring shopping list here so you can browse everything in one place. A few pieces in there haven’t been included in the above, and I’ll keep adding as I do more research!
Lastly, I separated out all my Madewell accessory picks right here, for easy shopping.
If you’re craving a little wardrobe refresh, I hope this gave you a spark. If you do decide to splurge, let it be something you wear the shit out of.
Love yous,
Kelly
Ugh, now I need that $420 Bode top!
